Everything you need to know about Toronto’s new Vacant Home Tax
If you own a home
in Toronto, you’ll now be required to report whether or not your property is currently lived in,
as part of a new effort to increase housing availability in the city.
This year, homeowners are required to declare
their property’s 2022 occupancy status by February 2, 2023.

Canadian home prices wrap up 2022 down slightly over previous year, but remain above pre-pandemic levels
For the first
time in more than a decade, the aggregate price of a home in Canada posted a year-over-year decline in
the fourth quarter of 2022. According to the Royal LePage House Price Survey, the aggregate price of a
home in Canada decreased 2.8% year-over-year to $757,100 in the final quarter of 2022; the first year-over-year
decline recorded since the end of 2008 during the global financial crisis.
